Marjoram

The Greeks called marjoram the joy of the mountain and gave her to Aphrodite: legend says the goddess raised the herb herself, and her touch left it its fragrance. Bridal couples in Greece and Rome were crowned with her wreaths, and where she grew upon a grave the old folk said the departed rested in happiness. A herb of warm and rousing temper, she has long been used to stoke the body's inner fire — to set moving what had grown stagnant, warm the circulation, ease and quicken the digestion, and lift a heavy, apathetic spirit toward action and resolve. Yet in the hermetic ledger she answers not to Venus but to Mercury — the planet of motion, of the road, of everything that will not stand still — and her signature is motion itself: the loosening of what has settled, the setting-out, the traveller's light foot. This tincture is a full spagyric Work — the herb macerated and distilled, then burned to ash, and the white mineral salt drawn from that ash returned to the tincture: body, soul and spirit reunited in one vessel.
